But whether it will stick around is a different question. Just like the birth and exit of LinkedIn stories, they’ll be testing out these videos to see if they’re worth keeping around or not.&nbsp;What do you think to the short-form videos?&nbsp;<img src="https://cms.socialjems.co.uk/uploads/thinking_think_about_it_b57403afbb.gif" alt="thinking-think-about-it.gif">Instagram&nbsp;A new feature for carousel posts is coming to LinkedIn! Top of FormNow, you can tag specific images or videos with numbers in your comments.&nbsp;Simply add "@3" before your message to comment on the third picture, for example. Your comment will then show up next to a thumbnail of that precise image. It's a smart move to boost engagement and clear up any confusion.<img src="https://cms.socialjems.co.uk/uploads/home_alone_what_else_is_new_35909e15a9.gif" alt="home-alone-what-else-is-new.gif"><h2>💎&nbsp;SOCIALJEMS</h2>March was mental.&nbsp;Which we’re grateful for because mental means we’re busy! We’ve had new clients teaming up with us, and old clients asking for more services. It’s great news, but we won’t hide the fact it’s been mental. Afterall, we’re a small team (for now), but speaking of the team, let’s see what Jem and Sarah have been up to.<h3>JEM!</h3>Jem has been on fire! (Not literally of course). But she’s been smashing sales calls and talking to potential clients, landed new clients, and of course always making time to talk to our current clients -whether it’s work related, or they just want a chat.&nbsp;She’s getting better at actually putting down the laptop and not working 7 days a week. Spending time with her partner Josh and her awesome son Charlie.&nbsp;You can’t live to work. Description automatically generated">SARAH!&nbsp;Sarah took some time off from posting on LinkedIn and was more of a hide-behind-the-laptop for a few weeks.&nbsp;When she wasn’t creating content for clients, she was out seeing friends and family. Joe’s uncle and aunt (let’s face it they are her aunt and uncle too) came up to visit and wanted to meet some of her friends.&nbsp;Oh, and Sarah is a bit gutted, because she’s only a month ahead on her clients, she normally likes to be at least two months ahead.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/image_2f24174600.png" alt="A group of people sitting at a table

Not quite…We also have a team member who has been working behind the scenes with us for a while, we’ve not introduced them yet and whilst they might work in the background we want to put them in the foreground finally, especially with how much they do for us. How is it December already! Sarah still thinks we're in June!We know this time of year can be a bit hectic, with everyone hustling to wrap up projects and tie a neat bow on 2023. But here's a tip: just because it's December doesn't mean your social media game has to take a holiday break too!Sure, things might slow down a bit as people gear up for some well-deserved time off, and traditional sales posts might not be the go-to for everyone right now.&nbsp;People are diving into holiday festivities, enjoying quality time with loved ones, or simply taking a social media detox.&nbsp;But guess what?&nbsp;This creates a fantastic opportunity for you to stand out.&nbsp;With fewer people in the social media arena, your posts have a better chance of standing out. Your content doesn't have to be about Christmas, share things that you enjoy!😀<h2>LinkedIn says goodbye to carousels and more</h2>LinkedIn is saying goodbye!👋No more, carousel posts, profile videos and in-image linking.&nbsp;Starting from 14th December 2023.&nbsp;This means any previously posted carousels will be waving goodbye, and those clickable links? Well, they're going to take an early retirement too.According to LinkedIn, this move is happening due to a bit of a lack of interest among users.&nbsp;So, from next month onwards, carousels and profile videos will no longer be part of the LinkedIn posting menu.But don’t worry. If you love carousels, you can always use the PDF workaround until further notice.As for profile videos and clickable links in images, they joined the LinkedIn party in 2021 and August last year. However, it seems like the dance floor wasn't as packed as expected, so they've gracefully exited the stage.Oh, and here's a heads-up for planning: all these changes are not just for the present but also for the past. Anything you've posted using these features will be retrospectively bid adieu next month.😲Now, if you're feeling a bit nostalgic or want to keep a memento of your profile video, LinkedIn is offering to send you a copy. She booked and paid for one. It’s been a long and wild year at SocialJems, and though Jem always adapts…she’s still human. And being a business owner and tackling all these challenges, can take its toll.So, she took a day off (which Jem struggles to do usually) and headed to the spa for a day of relaxation, bubbles, and treatments.&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/image_8127520b09.png" alt="May be an image of 1 person and drink"><h2>Sarah hasn’t crashed!</h2>And considering what she’s been doing -that’s a good thing. She’s continuing her driving lessons, travelling down country roads in the lovely British rain. The SocialJems have had a pretty busy time, we’re almost at full capacity and it won’t be long until we have to put a pause on taking on new clients. Charlie is on a holiday in Majorca with his father, having a great time but it has thrown Jem! She is used to juggling the school holidays and running a business, but this time there is no juggling…but she is lost with what to do, without Charlie around.&nbsp;“Where the F is my kid! I don’t like this” – A quote from Jem.&nbsp;So, she’s done what she does best…focused on something to distract herself.&nbsp;So, when she’s not writing content or calling clients, she’s decorating her house AGAIN!&nbsp;Her partner Josh is still struggling with his knee, but at least he is now on the waiting list for surgery – we’re thinking of you Josh!&nbsp;<img src="/uploads/image_c917024bdf.png" alt="A person and person taking a selfie

Jem’s son started High School and on the first day went in the wrong blazer and gave Jem a panic attack when she couldn’t get a hold of him after school had finished. Turns out Charlie had lost his pencil case and went around the school searching for it and forgot to turn his phone on- you can imagine the stress Jem felt when she couldn’t get in touch with her son! So, buckle up and settle down for September’s news…September is when we are used to things changing; kids move up a year in school and everywhere we look; marketing campaigns are starting to gear up towards Christmas. The sunny photos and BBQ adverts are being replaced with warm clothes, brown leaves, and all things Autumn. But what if you don’t want your staff to move on? What if keeping people in your company is what is best for the business? What steps can you take to improve employee retention? It's not just about hiring the best; it's about nurturing and retaining them within your organisation.<h3>Unlocking Employee Retention: A Winning Formula for Employers</h3>1. Cultivate a positive work culture:A positive work culture is the foundation of a satisfied workforce. Foster an environment where employees feel respected, appreciated, and valued. Remember, investing in your employees is an investment in your organisation's future success.<h3>In the News</h3>It’s been an exciting time for manufacturing recently and we were hard pushed to select only three top stories to share with you!&nbsp;Antrim-based manufacturer, SAM Mouldings has revealed £7m investment plans at its architectural-mouldings manufacturing facility. This latest multi-million-pound investment will be channelled into product innovation, distribution system improvements and the construction of a new 45,000 square foot warehousing facility located in Newpark Industrial Estate, Antrim. Find out more here&nbsp;<a href="https://bit.ly/47IxTfR">https://bit.ly/47IxTfR</a>&nbsp;A robotics supplier has been chosen by BAE Systems to continue working on current and emergent projects in its Factory of the Future. True Position Robotics (TPR)’s previous work consisted of providing robot guiding technology to enhance the accuracy of conventional robots, significantly reducing the need for traditional assembly tooling. This was realised on a concept fuselage in an industry 4.0 factory demonstrator with TPR’s Adaptive Robot Control (ARC) solution. Read more here&nbsp;<a href="https://bit.ly/45FherQ">https://bit.ly/45FherQ</a>&nbsp;Last month’s GCSE results are the future of the industry and despite a rise in numbers the gender split is still too unequal.The modest increase in the numbers taking design and technology means around 87,000 students studied D&amp;T at this level, while computing has seen a 11.6% uplift in entries, representing around 9,500 more students year on year. Overall, the number taking sciences has increased roughly in line with the number of entries (up 3.4%). Entries for physics increased by 3.2%, chemistry by 3.5%, biology by 2.6% and double science by 3.5%. And we are pleased that, while overall numbers remain small, there’s been an 8.1% increase in the number of students taking GCSE Engineering and a 23% increase for construction and the built environment. However, despite these increases, the gender split across some of these GCSE subjects is a concern. While the rise in design &amp; technology entries is driven by girls (up 4.79%) the proportion of girls taking D&amp;T remains less than a third (31%), while girls account for just 21% of entries for computing, 17% for engineering and 10% for construction. Honestly, it’s wet and we have all seriously had conversations that revolve around whether or not we should put the heating on.&nbsp; So, to lift the gloom we have devoted this month’s newsletter to all things positive and sparkly. If we had some glitter, we would throw it. But we don’t. So, we won’t.<h2>FREE STUFF!</h2>This month we are doing something a little different. We know the summer can be a minefield for so many of you and want to make things as easy as possible. So much of the software was not ready that the platform is severely limited in what it can do and what it can offer. It just goes to show that following the herd is not necessarily the best course of action. That said, engagement is still better on Threads than on Twitter.💎 Twitter has now become X. No, we have no idea why either, but as the whole platform is one giant mess, maybe it will help with a re-launch? Hashtags on Twitter, sorry, X, are officially NOT a good idea. Elon wants you to keep on X and for your content to not bounce people around (which is why external links are also a bad idea).&nbsp; Are you using X? We don’t as we don’t agree with paying to make sure our tweets get the reach needed. And we don't like it.&nbsp;💎 LinkedIn is still our favorite platform and is rolling out changes faster than Usain Bolt can run 100m.&nbsp; Have you tried the new AI assistant there yet? We would advise caution- AI is great as a tool for ideas and helping to frame those ideas, but never forget that no AI can replace the humor and empathy of a human writer. It's also very easy to spot posts and comments written with AI!&nbsp;💎 Facebook is getting some huge traction behind reels so it’s worth sharing your short form video there too. Have you updated your profile to Professional Mode yet? It is giving the sort of organic reach that can normally only be gained with ad spend behind it. We are impressed!&nbsp;💎 Instagram’s new collaboration tool on posts allows you to get 3 times the reach. Remember that when you collaborate with someone, that content is shown in ALL the collaborators feeds! Get collaborating and tag all of your collaborators each time!&nbsp;<h2>FUN STUFF</h2>We are super proud of Jem who not only has been awarded “Top Storytelling Voice” by LinkedIn but has also been anonymously nominated for The Women in Sales Small Business Award!! Jem is, as you all know, passionate about sales and making it simple, non-sleazy and as easy as possible. So, for her to have been recognised and nominated for another award is fabulous. Keep your eyes open for news on this and how the voting works.&nbsp;In other news, our founder Jem has been working tirelessly throughout the summer holidays, all whilst playing sarcastic nurse to her partner Josh, due to him breaking his knee. She’s supportive of him and helping him, but that doesn’t mean she will tone down the sarcasm. Now that Charlie is back from a coastal adventure, they’ll all be taking a mini holiday that involves a hot tub, and not a lot of walking for obvious reasons.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="/uploads/image_85276b1680.png"></figure>Sarah is visiting Joe’s family in Dover and taking EVERY opportunity to get into the sea, take photos of the sea, work by the sea….you get the idea!&nbsp; There has been a fair amount of dog cuddling, gin sampling and lots of content creation. Sarah always works happiest by the sea and with plenty of dogs around her, so add in the traditional seaside attractions and the opportunity to win more Pokemon, and all in all we have a very cheerful MorganMuffel here at SocialJems.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="/uploads/image_e86b12be2e.png"></figure>Anna managed to take the 1st week of the holiday off…and promptly caught covid, so spent her week off feeling terrible and being sick. Tiddlypud is enjoying playdates, sleepovers, and a week at dance school, so Anna is cramming as much work into these spaces as she can.&nbsp; We believe her when she says she is longing for September and a return to a normal routine! Now, we are not going to talk about strategy or plans etc as frankly, it’s so new and basic that there are no plans or strategy. The burning question for us is this:<ul><li>If you write a Tweet, you have Tweeted.&nbsp;</li><li>If you write a Thread, have you Threaded? Threading? Threadadoodle?</li><li>If anyone knows the answer to this, please let us know, it’s driving us bonkers!</li></ul><h2>FREE STUFF!</h2>As ever, Jem has some fantastic training up her sleeve for you this month, all about outreach. Now, if you’ve been here more than 20 seconds, you’ll know what our views are on cold pitches. Yes, vomit inducing, and we don’t do them. But if you say “outreach” to someone, chances are this is what they will be thinking of. But outreach is MUCH more than that. Done properly it builds communities, networks, and keeps you front of mind. You don’t need to sell, spam, or attempt to “slide into the DMs”. You simply have to know how to message people in a friendly, open way that builds a conversation and therefore trust. And Jem is going to show you how! Come along on WEDNESDAY JULY 26th at 12pm!&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="/uploads/image_8ee2059311.png"></figure><h2>SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATES</h2>Threads aside, and its (current) 150 million users, what else is happening in the social media world?💎LinkedIn have given post suggestions on company pages, so if you are feeling the old writer’s block, this might help. Have you used it yet? How did you find it?&nbsp;💎 Instagram now lets us collaborate with up to 3 people for each post we write. The benefit here is that the more people we collaborate with, the more feeds our content gets distributed to. We are loving this as collaboration is the best tool (and usually free) for driving social media success.&nbsp;💎Facebook now allows you to select a cover for your reel! Yes, you can customise those videos a little more now.&nbsp;💎Are you using WhatsApp for your business? Meta have added a “click to message” option to adverts on reels, aiming to drive conversation even more.Now, Meta is looking like the powerhouse here, as it has Instagram, Facebook, Threads and WhatsApp. But remember, the ease of setting up a Threads account and the ability to transfer Instagram followings to it has made its roll out very easy. Hashtags do not work on Threads and there are no adverts; in short, it’s too early to see what will happen. Our strategy at the moment here is to sit tight and watch.&nbsp;<h2>FUN STUFF</h2>The end of the school year has brought tears to Jem’s eyes as she read the glowing reports from the school about how well Charlie has done. You won’t be surprised to learn he is just like his amazing Mum! The kitchen has been wrapped (vinyl wrapped we mean!) and Jem is loving the new antique white and green look. A lick of new paint on the wall and another room in the new house is complete! It’s been a full-on busy month for Jem who navigated 6 trains and a 7 journey to attend a yacht party! Yes, an actual yacht! The pictures say it all…she had a blast! A quick weekend away and a spot of house painting and Jem is now resting. Place your bets on how long this will last! She is like Tigger on sugar….never stops!&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="/uploads/image_b38cd4d0a4.png"></figure>Sarah has been waging war on weeds. However, every time she set foot outside, it rained. Or there was a thunderstorm. It also became apparent that her brilliant idea of soap to kill the weeds was not so brilliant …. yes, a yard full of foamy bubbles ensued! But our Bostock had the last laugh and whilst the weather was busy elsewhere, she spent 6 hours pulling up weeds. In non-gardening related news, the pull of the sea remains strong and Sarah has been dipping in it whenever possible, and whenever her posts are not trending on LinkedIn News! We are all super proud of her, and even more so now we have established that being in the sea in a storm is NOT a good idea.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="/uploads/image_945e41ede8.png"></figure>Anna has been getting to grips with the fact that Eloise is now 5!! And has discovered that 20 kids in a non-air-conditioned soft play centre is actually akin to Hell on earth. Reports of her wearing an ice pack in her top for the duration of the birthday party are true. With summer holidays only a few days away she is up to her eyes in plans for juggling work and Tiddlypud and sends solidarity to all parents with small children who also have to work from home.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="/uploads/image_c69e76b290.png"></figure>See you next month, love from The SocialJems x
